Reading Reflection and Discussion Post Assignment

The “Weekly Reading Reflection and Discussion Post Response” assignments give students the opportunity to share their initial reaction/interpretation of the assigned readings while providing me the chance to regularly check in on their engagement and comfort with the materials. The follow up “Discussion Response” asks students to interact with each other and expand on their initial postings. This format opens a space to introduce students to diverse perspectives and for them to take in new and different approaches to the readings. I make it clear that rather than looking for a deep fluency in complex theories or methods in their discussion posts, I base my assessment on clarity, critical thinking, response to my previous assignment feedback, and whether the individual has made an attempt to apply the concepts and theories in a meaningful way.
